What is CUE C.A.R.E.S

CUE C.A.R.E.S. is Concordia University of Edmonton’s integrated support program that responds to concerning behaviour, including poor academic performance, disruptive behaviour, or escalations in behavioural concerns. CUE C.A.R.E.S brings together several formerly separate teams — including Behavioural Support & Intervention, Gender-Based Violence Response, Domestic Violence Support, Early Alert, and Non-Academic Misconduct (such as Discrimination, Harassment, and Accommodation concerns) — under one coordinated umbrella.
Our mission is to promote a safe, inclusive, and caring campus environment through early identification, coordinated response, and supportive follow-up. The team responds to concerns raised by students, staff, and faculty, and is committed to addressing each situation with care and respect.
In Case of Emergency
CUE C.A.R.E.S. is not an emergency response team and cannot guarantee immediate or after-hours response.
If you need urgent help:
- Call or text 911 for life-threatening emergencies or crimes in progress,
- Then call Campus Security at 780-479-8751 or ext. 5555 from any internal phone.
For urgent but non-emergency safety concerns, Campus Security is available 24/7. CUE C.A.R.E.S. responds to submitted reports during regular business hours and will follow up as soon as possible.
Reporting a concern
Timely reporting allows the team to intervene early, offer support, and prevent potential harm. You are not making a judgment — you are enabling trained professionals to assess the situation and determine the most appropriate response.
Examples of concerning behaviour include, but are not limited to:
- Academic performance issues (e.g., decline in grades, missed assignments or exams)
- Withdrawal or changes in social interaction (including not attending class)
- Marked changes in behaviour, appearance, and/or affect
- Repeated patterns of behaviour that raise concern
- Disruptive or aggressive behaviour
- Alcohol or drug misuse
- Verbal or written threats
- Expressions of suicidal intent or self-harm
You may choose to submit a report anonymously, but including your contact information allows the team to gather important follow-up details.
CUE C.A.R.E.S Team
The CUE C.A.R.E.S. Team is made up of representatives from departments across campus who help students, faculty, and staff navigate the CUE C.A.R.E.S. process. Participating areas include Campus Life — Student Life & Learning, Athletics & Wellness, and kihêwak kâpimihâcik — as well as Campus Security, International Student Support, and other key support units.
By working as a cross-functional team, CUE C.A.R.E.S. is able to respond more effectively to a wide range of issues that affect the wellbeing, safety, and success of our campus community. This includes, but is not limited to, academic progress concerns, complex student situations, mental health crises, community safety concerns, and incidents of harm or misconduct — even when they don’t fall neatly into a single category. Our goal is to provide a more coordinated, compassionate approach that connects the right people at the right time.
If your concern involves an employee, typically the most appropriate and effective approach is to contact Human Resources directly; but in some instances, you may prefer to submit a concern to CUE C.A.R.E.S.
What Happens When You Submit a CUE C.A.R.E.S. Report?
When a report is submitted through CUE C.A.R.E.S., it is received by the CUE C.A.R.E.S. team and promptly reviewed. The team triages the concern and directs it to the most appropriate internal response group, e.g. Behavioural Support & Intervention Team (BSIT), the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Response Team, or the Interdisciplinary Support Team, and they will follow up to address the concern. This coordinated approach ensures that each concern is addressed with care, confidentiality, and the right expertise.
Why Reporting Matters
Every member of the CUE community — students, faculty, and staff — plays a role in creating a safer, more compassionate campus. When you submit a report, you help connect someone with the support they may need. When in doubt, reach out.
