Career Fair

January 21, 2026
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Tegler Student Centre

Get hired in 2026!

Thinking about getting a master’s degree or professional designation in the future? At Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE)’s annual Graduate Studies Fair, you can discover opportunities for graduate programs or professional certifications from different institutions including CUE’S own programs. Connect with representatives and find out where your CUE undergraduate degree can take you!

Why should students attend the Grad Fair?

  • To gather information about the various program options available to students

  • An opportunity to research a university, college or program you may be interested in.

  • A chance to talk in person with further education representatives about their program and career paths.

Here are some questions to ask the representatives in order to get the most out of the Fair:

General

  • What do you wish more students would know about your program or the application process?
  • Can I follow up with you if I have more questions? What is the best way to reach you?
  • Are there any information sessions I should be aware of?

Grades

  • What advice can you give to students who are concerned with their GPA?
  • Besides my GPA, what else can I do to prepare a strong application?
  • Sometimes students experience a term of low marks for various reasons.  Is there an area in your application that provides a space to explain extraordinary circumstances?
  • How do I make up the prerequisites?
  • How do you calculate the GPA?  Is there a minimum GPA versus the reality of those accepted?
  • When I drop a course and/or withdrawn and/or cancelled, how is this considered?

General Application

  • What are some tips you have on selecting references?
  • At what stage do references become part of the selection process?  How important is a strong reference?
  • What if I don’t have an academic reference?
  • Does my academic reference need to be from a subject area that aligns with my grad application?
  • How are my extracurricular and volunteer experiences taken into account in my application?
  • Where can I find information about important application dates?

Diversity Recruitment

  • Do you have any access strategies that students might want to know?
  • What are your diversity recruitment streams?  Can you share the advantages (or disadvantages) of applying through a particular stream?
  • Do you have particular resources (ex. webinars, peer conversations) to assist me with my application process?

Internationally-focused Programs

  • For professional programs abroad, what are some advice you’d give to students who want to return to Canada? What due diligence should be done?

Employment Opportunities

  • What is the employment outlook for this program?
  • What kinds of careers do your grads end up doing?
  • Are there career services available?

Program Specific

  • What’s a program that you wish more students knew about?
  • What are some of your most popular programs?
  • How is the program structured (classes, projects, research etc.?)
  • What is unique about the way the program is run compared to other schools?
  • Does your program meet the requirements of the regulatory body (for regulated professional programs)?
  • Is there an opportunity for co-ops, placements, or internships as part of this program? What supports are offered?
  • What are the benefits of doing a graduate certificate versus a graduate degree?
  • Do you have multiple start dates for program(s)?

Career Fair

January 21, 2026
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Tegler Student’s Centre

If you’ve been looking for full-time, internship or volunteer work experience, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the support during Career Week this January, including CUE’s annual Career Fair. Connect with over 30 different companies representing diverse fields, and get valuable face time with recruiters who are actively hiring students just like you.

Remember, it’s always your last chance to make a first impression, so be sure to come prepared. Follow the guide below, and take advantage of the many workshops and other services taking place during Career Week.

Before the Career Fair

Start by doing research on titles/jobs that you are interested in. Try to review several postings for the same or similar roles to get a sense of what skills, education and experience are required. And, don’t forget to research information about the career sector too using sites like alis.alberta.ca

Review the list of employers attending Career Fair and select 3-5 that interest you, then:

  • Research each company
  • Prepare a tailored resume for each position and each company
  • Create a introductory pitch
  • Prepare questions you would like to ask that company
  • Update your LinkedIn profile

Dress for the fair as if you are going into an interview. Some basic expectations are:

  • Clean clothing with little to no wrinkles
  • Beware of scents, strong perfume or body spray is frowned upon
  • Ensure all clothing fits appropriately
  • Ensure your hands and nails are clean and neatly trimmed
  • Keep your accessories simple
  • Shoes should be clean
  • Try for neutral colours

During the Career Fair

While you may have chosen 3-5 employers you want to connect with, the fair is 4 hours long so try connecting with other employers as well.

When you are trying to pitch your skills to attract employers, don’t forget to connect with the representatives. That can be done by small talk, or through open-ended questions about themselves. Be careful of body language and other cues, you do not want to monopolize their time.

Bring paper resumes but since most will probably ask you to apply online, this is your chance to take notes on what the employer wants to see in the resume and cover letter. So take notes of the representative’s name, what they are highlighting as important and anything else interesting.

DO NOT:

  • Visit each booth in large groups
  • Force the employer to take your resume

DO:

  • Ask permission to add on LinkedIn
  • Ask about their follow-up procedure
  • Thank the representative for their time

After the Career Fair

Reflect and organize your notes and thoughts on how the fair went. Did recruiters repeatedly ask for experience you didn’t have on your résumé? Did you struggle to articulate a specific skill? Use this feedback to update your résumé, LinkedIn profile, or elevator pitch for future events.

Think about whether the employer met your expectations, about the answers they provided and compare that to your own values and needs.

Follow up with any employers you spoke to and have their contact for. Thank them for their time either through email or through LinkedIn. Try to do so within 48 hours of the fair. Do so even if you are not interested! Make it personalized and mention where you met them.

Apply to the jobs right away if you are in a position to do so. If the application asks if you know anyone at the company, or if you are sending a cover letter, mention that you spoke to the recruiter/hiring manager at the career fair (e.g., “I recently spoke with [Recruiter’s Name] at your booth during the campus career fair…”).
