What is a CUE Scholarship?

CUE Scholarships are provided by generous private donors and organizations. There are many different types of CUE Scholarships which range in value from $350 to $3,000. You are encouraged to read through the CUE Scholarships list to see which ones you might be eligible for.

How many CUE Scholarships can I apply for?

There are more than 50+ different scholarships in this award competition which are grouped into three categories:

  • Service/Leadership Awards
  • Program Specific Awards (Arts, Science, Management, Education)
  • Legacy Awards

When you select a category, you will be considered for all the scholarships included in that category. You may select one, two, or all three categories.

Who is eligible to apply?

All full-time domestic and international undergraduate degree students registered in the both the fall and winter terms are eligible to apply.

Students registered in part-time studies, Open Studies, or a Graduate degree program are not eligible to apply. Students who begin their studies in winter term (January) are not eligible to apply until the following academic year.

I am an international student. Can I apply for CUE Scholarships?

International students may apply provided they are registered full-time in both the fall and winter terms in an undergraduate degree program.

I’m an Open Studies student. Can I apply for awards?

Open Studies students are not eligible to apply. Once you are registered full-time in both the fall and winter terms in an undergraduate degree program, you may apply.

How do I apply?

You must complete and submit the online application found on Concordia University of Edmonton’s website through Online Services for Students. Students can submit an online application anytime during the application period – November 15th – January 15th.

When is the deadline?

The deadline to apply for CUE Scholarships is January 15th. In addition, the referee must submit their electronic letter of reference by the January 22nd deadline.

How many reference letters do I need to submit?

One reference is required for each applicant.

In the online application, provide a name and email address for your first referee. After you submit your CUE Scholarships application online, he/she will receive a system generated email with a link directing him/her to an online form where he/she can confidentially submit his/her comments.

Special circumstances:

  • Constable Peter Schiemann Memorial Scholarship – submit 3 references (one each from a member of the RCMP, a current or former professor or teacher, and your pastor).
  • Wildeman Scholarship in Music – submit 2 references (one letter of reference from a Concordia faculty member in the Music Department and one general letter of reference regarding your service/leadership).

How do I submit my reference letter?

When completing the online application, you are required to list the name and email address of your referee.  Your referee will receive a system generated email with a link directing him/her to an online form where he/she can confidentially submit his/her comments by the deadline.

If your referee does not have an email address or is having difficulty submitting the online form, please contact finaid@concordia.ab.ca.

How do I know if my letter of reference has arrived?

Email the Financial Aid and Awards Office at finaid@concordia.ab.ca before the reference letter deadline.

Which grades are used to determine my eligibility for an award?

For most awards, the GPA from the fall term is used to determine if you meet the GPA requirements for the award.

Can I submit a hand-written application form?

All applications must be submitted using the online form.

Why do I have to provide financial information?

Awards that have “financial need” as part of the award criteria require the completion of the financial information section. Financial information is used to determine your financial need. Do not let this section deter you from applying.

Can my career goal be more than 50 words?

The online application only allows for 50 words.

What types of Service and Leadership Activities should I include on my application?

We encourage applicants to include all service and leadership activities they have been involved with over the last three years. The application allows up to 8 entries so be sure to select your most significant activities. A thorough listing will help show us that you meet the award criteria.

How do I know if my application has been successfully submitted?

After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation number.

Who do I contact if I have technical difficulties with the online awards application?

Email the Concordia IT Help Desk at helpdesk@concordia.ab.ca or visit the IT Help Desk located in the library. Other application concerns may be directed to a Financial Aid Advisor.

Can I make changes to my application after it has been submitted?

Once you have submitted your online application you will no longer have access to it. To make changes or add additional information to your application send an email to finaid@concordia.ab.ca.

When will I find out if I received a CUE Scholarship?

Successful applicants are notified by email in early March. A list of award recipients will also be posted on the Financial Aid and Awards website at financialaid.concordia.ab.ca.
