10.3 Bachelor of Management 2024/2025

10.3.1 Four-Year Bachelor of Management Degree Program

Concordia University of Edmonton’s Bachelor of Management program has been designed to cultivate graduates with a combination of superior professional/technical competency and effective management/leadership skills that will allow them to excel in any industry.

The program’s core curriculum integrates professional and technical courses in accounting, financing, information technology, human resources, operations, and marketing, with management/leadership, communication, and organizational studies courses that foster strategic and critical thinking, creativity, well-roundedness, interpersonal effectiveness as well as social and ethical accountability.

Practical and relevant learning is enhanced through the program’s engagement of industry experts in the classroom, an employer advisory committee consisting of high profile business and community leaders, a 450-hour practicum, student consulting projects, and other experiential learning activities.

The program is innovative and highly flexible, giving students the opportunity to complete their Bachelor of Management degree with an emphasis in Accounting, Conflict Management, Data Management, Finance, Human Resource Management, Leadership, Marketing, or with a minor in various fields from the Faculties of Arts and Science. Students in other programs may also enhance their degree with a minor in Business.

The Bachelor of Management degree prepares students to enter the workforce directly as well as provides the necessary requirements for students to pursue graduate studies in a wide range of business, academic, and professional fields.

A. General Academic Requirements

Candidates for Concordia University of Edmonton’s Bachelor of Management program:

  1. Must complete a total of 120 credits.
  2. Must complete 60 of the required 120 credits at Concordia University of Edmonton. (Residency Requirement, section B).
  3. May complete a minor, emphasis or select a range of electives.
  4. For continuation in the program, must maintain an overall GPA of 2.3 or higher.
  5. May count no more than 48 credits of junior-level courses toward the degree.
  6. For graduation, must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.3 in the 120 credits required for the degree. For further information, see Graduation Requirements, section 9.7.1.

B. Residency Requirement

Candidates for Concordia University of Edmonton’s Bachelor of Management degree must complete the specified credits at Concordia University of Edmonton (section A.2). Students who plan to take courses for credit at other institutions must first follow the procedures for Visiting Student Permission, section 4.4.3.A.

C. Program Requirements

Core Requirements: 6 credits
  1. 6 credits of ENG courses.
Business: 39 credits
  1. ECO 101 (Introduction to Microeconomics) and ECO 102 (Introduction to Macroeconomics)
  2. ACCT101 (Introductory Financial Accounting) and ACCT102 (Introductory Management Accounting)
  3. BUS 110 (Business Fundamentals) and BUS 120 (Organizational Behaviour)
  4. BUS 112 (Business Statistics) or MAT 151 (Introduction to Statistical Methods) (BUS 112 (Business Statistics) is highly recommended)
  5. BUS 210 (Principles of Business Law) and BUS 250 (Management Information Systems)
  6. BUS 220 (Principles of Management)
  7. FIN 201 (Corporate Finance)
  8. MARK201 (Introduction to Marketing) and MARK223 (Marketing Research)
Management: 27 credits
  1. FIN 325 (Managerial Finance)
  2. HRM 220 (Introduction to Human Resource Management)
  3. MGT 320 (Operations Management) and MGT 323 (Business and Society)
  4. LDR 301 (Foundations of Leadership) and LDR 402 (Global Strategic Leadership)
  5. MGT 417 (Principles of Strategic Management), and MGT 440 (Consulting)
  6. MGT 474 (Business Ethics: Concepts and Cases)
Minor/Emphasis/Elective: 45 credits
  1. 45 credits of electives.
    Students may declare one minor or emphasis.
    Permissible minors: All minors listed in section 10.6 other than Business.
Internship: 3 credits
  1. MGT 498 (Internship)

D. Additional Requirements

Students must present
  1. a grade of 75% or higher in either Math 30-1 or Math 30-2, or credit in BUS 111 (Business Computations).
  2. AIT 100 (Undergraduate Academic Integrity Training)

E. Bachelor of Management Emphases

Program required courses listed in section 10.3.1.C will not contribute towards any of the emphases listed below.

Accounting
Minimum 12 credits of unspecified 300- or 400-level ACCT.
Conflict Management
Minimum 12 credits in the following courses

Cybersecurity Management
Minimum 12 credits in the following courses

Data Management
Minimum 6 credits of unspecified 300- or 400-level DTM.
Finance
Minimum 12 credits of unspecified 300- or 400-level FIN.
Human Resource Management
Minimum 12 credits of unspecified 300- or 400-level HRM.
Leadership
Minimum 12 credits of unspecified 300- or 400-level LDR.
Marketing
Minimum 12 credits of unspecified 300- or 400-level MARK.
