Criminology Minor

Criminology is the scientific study of crime, criminalization, and social control. The Minor in Criminology at Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) equips students with critical thinking skills and a solid foundation in criminology theory and practice, specifically focusing on how and why crime occurs, how societies respond to it, and how justice systems operate and evolve. The program prepares students to thoughtfully engage with the complexity of criminal justice issues in both academic and applied environments. By the end of their program, students are able to:

  • Analyze the relationship between historical context and changing perspectives on deviance and criminalization.
  • Articulate and compare the major theoretical and methodological issues in the field of criminology.
  • Develop a well-structured, critical research paper
  • Communicate material effectively in both written and oral formats
  • Conduct research using primary and secondary data
  • Think critically about social justice issues and recognize their broad impact on individuals and communities

See the Academic Calendar for further information about this Minor.
