Shelley Sumar
Sessional Instructor, Department of Psychology
I have a Bachelors of Education from the University of Alberta. Before having full-time employment, I subbed many diverse classrooms such as kindergarten music, grade 2, and even high school English. However, I have loved the experience of teaching grade 4, 5, 6 and 9. Throughout teaching multiple grades and working with a diverse group of students I found my niche within challenging behaviours and children with developmental disabilities. With this passion I pursued my Masters of Science in Behavioural Psychology with a specialization in Applied Behavioural Analysis which was completed in 2016.
This allowed me to have experience as an Inclusive Coordinator for a school of grades 4-12 and sent me on the adventure of a lifetime to be the first Special Educational Needs Coordinator at the Canadian International School in Abu Dhabi. This school was pre-K all the way to grade 12. I have also had the joy of teaching in the Interactions program at Edmonton Public Schools, the GIST program which focuses on skill building, literacy, numeracy and severe behavioural challenges and the mobile behavioural consultant team with Edmonton Catholic schools.
I have also been fortunate enough to be a member of the Skillcorps team with the Global Autism Project in Kenya. I currently specialize in severe behaviour and severe skill deficits. I work as the psycho-educational consultant, BCBA and psychometrist for a private psychology clinic. I am now pursuing licensing to become a registered psychologist as well.
