Dr. Amanda DeGuerre
Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology
I am a Registered Psychologist whose work focuses on addiction, mental health, and psychological well-being among individuals working in high-stress, high-responsibility roles. I hold a PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Addictions and a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. Alongside my academic work, I have extensive clinical experience in outpatient, inpatient, and community-based settings treating addiction and mental health conditions.
I have been teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels since 2021. I enjoy teaching courses in abnormal psychology, counselling theories, ethics in psychology, psychopharmacology, and mental health and addiction. In addition to classroom teaching, I supervise counselling psychology practicum students and mentor master’s students through thesis and capstone projects.
My research focuses on the psychology of public safety, with particular attention to first responders, corrections professionals, military personnel, and other trauma-exposed professionals. My interests include addiction and mental health, psychological safety, occupational stress, resilience, moral injury, and adaptive functioning.
