Chinese Academy of Sciences

The Academy supports research and development in natural sciences, technological science, and high-tech innovation, with special emphasis on funding young and international researchers.

Center for Chinese Studies (CCS)

The Center for Chinese Studies’ research grant program is aimed at foreign professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, and doctoral candidates in Chinese studies-related departments at foreign universities. CCS provides assistance with research expenses, research materials, liaison with universities and research institutions, and use of CCS facilities.  Grant recipients are entitled to travel and research subsidies. Research tenure is 3 months to 1 year.

Chinese National Center for Biotechnology Development

The Center focuses on biotechnology research and development and lists calls for projects.

Hong Kong

Research Grants Council (RGC)

Funds small and large scale research projects, joint schemes, and general research grants, and sponsors special postdoctoral conference travel awards and grants for group research.


Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

A publically funded research and development organization offering travel and general research grants, and funds programs especially for youth, scientific leadership, and early and established career researchers.

Department of Science and Technology

Promotes new areas of Science and Technology. It funds basic research in multiple areas and allocates grants especially for women in science.

Indian Council of Medical Research

Conducts and funds research in medical sciences; provides short-term fellowships, ad-hoc research grants and institutional grants; and has special programs for junior researchers and visiting scholars.

Ministry of Science and Technology, Department for Biotechnology (DBT)

Funds research in multiple areas, offers fellowships at national institutes, and allocates grants for women in biosciences and young researchers.


Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) was established for the purpose of contributing to the advancement of science in all fields of natural and social sciences and the humanities. It strives to improve the quality of the services it offers to individual researchers, universities and research institutes.

Japan Science and Technology Agency

Working toward the creation of innovation in science and technology, the focus is on creating new systems and services in the areas of green innovation, life innovation, nanotechnology and materials, information and communications technology, and science and technology for society.

Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship (MIF)

The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) is a nongovernmental organization. It is funded solely on donations. It is offering researchers, of a non-Japanese nationality, under the age of 49 fellowships. The invitation period is 3 to 6 months in fields of study. Studies in natural science, engineering and medicine are given first priority.

Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience

Mizutani Foundation offers grants to qualified scientists regardless of their nationalities or ethnic origins to promote basic and applied studies of glycoscience.

Korea, Republic of

National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF)

The Foundation is striving to become a global leader in research support. It promotes knowledge creation, innovative research, and a global research environment with nine major programs that cover all academic fields.


Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI)

Funds research in biotechnology and other areas of research and development with a societal impact.


Pakistan Science Foundation

The Foundation provides funding for research projects in the areas of Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Chemical Sciences, Computer/Information Technology, Mathematical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Earth Sciences, Medical Sciences and Physics.


National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA)

Funds research in multiple areas, including health and medical sciences, and collaborates with four national research centers. General research grants are available. NSTDA is focusing on five targeted sectors 1) Agriculture and Food, 2) Energy and Environment, 3) Health and Medicine, 4) Resources, Communities and the Underprivileged, and 5) Manufacturing and Service Industries critical to the economic and social development of Thailand.
