Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI)
ABMI provides information on the state of Alberta’s biodiversity in order to facilitate the responsible management of our environment. Research themes are: Species at Risk; Evaluating Ecological Patterns and Process in Alberta; Quantifying Ecological Response to Human Disturbance in Agriculture; Recovery of Disturbed Areas; and Data Collection Methods.
Alberta Centre for Child, Family and Community Research
The Centre funds policy-related applied research that has the potential to improve the wellbeing of Alberta’s children, their families and communities. Research that looks at outcomes for children and/or youth is of particular interest. Other grants available through this site are Seed Grants, Investigator-Driven Grants, Doctoral Awards, Early Career Transition Awards, and Westbury Legacy Awards.

Alberta Conservation Association (ACA)
ACA grant programs annually support a variety of projects both small and large that benefit Alberta’s wildlife and fish populations, as well as the habitat on which they depend. The grant programs are: Conservation, Community and Education; Research; and the ACA Grants in Biodiversity.

Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB)

Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada

The AZ Young Investigator Awards are awarded to talented young academic researchers who have demonstrated distinct achievements in synthetic, computational, mechanistic or bio-organic chemistry. Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)

The Canada Research Chairs Program stands at the centre of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world’s top five countries for research and development. Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)

The CMS Endowment Grants fund projects that contribute to the broader good of the Canadian mathematical community. Since the program’s inception in 1999, the CMS has awarded over $200,000 in grants to a wide variety of mathematical initiatives.
The Foundation provides seed funding to support pilot studies and research projects on nursing care issues that builds research capacity and improves patient or client outcomes.
Canadian TREE Fund and Jack Kimmel International Grant Program
The Canadian TREE Fund (CTF) is a registered Canadian charity established to promote arboriculture research in Canada. Research grants are awarded nationwide for worthwhile projects. In 2010, the CTF was successful in funding arboriculture research internationally through the Jack Kimmel International Grant Program.
The Canadian Wildlife Federation has established the Endangered Species Fund to support research that will benefit the conservation of species at risk. The Fund will focus on improving our knowledge of marine and freshwater species but will also consider projects addressing iconic species such as the polar bear or the caribou.
The Foundation primarily provides grants in the area of Adult Education Advancement, Environmental Enhancement and Housing Initiatives.
Counselling Foundation of Canada
The Foundation provides grants for research and projects that help to promote the work and enhance the impact of community organizations across Canada.
The Covenant Foundation invites applications for innovative programs in Jewish schools, community organizations, and other institutional settings. These grants will provide funding to help creative Jewish educators develop and implement significant and financially responsible approaches to Jewish education that are potentially adaptable in other settings. Covenant Grants may also be awarded for projects whose purpose is to disseminate particularly effective existing programs.

Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences

Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR)
FACTOR is dedicated toward providing assistance toward the growth and development of the Canadian music industry. The foundation administers contributions from private radio broadcasters as well as two components of the Department of Canada Heritage’s Canada Music Fund.
The Foundation supports and oversees promising research, ultimately to prevent vision loss and restore vision, thus enhancing the lives of those affected by blindness.
Fragile X Research Foundation of Canada
The Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness and funding research for Fragile X Syndrome – the most common inherited form of mental impairment in the world.
Traditional Fulbright Scholar awards for Canadian scholars are open to scholars in all fields (excluding medical training) and are designed to enable emerging and established scholars, post-doctoral researchers and experienced professionals to conduct research, teach, or undertake a combination of both activities for one semester or a full academic year at a university or research centre of their choice in the United States.
The Canada Gairdner Awards celebrate and reward scientists who make discoveries. There are seven awards given out annually. Each award is valued at $100,000. National Research Council of Canada (NRC)
The NRC provides innovation support, strategic research, scientific and technical services. NRC encourages and engages in multiple forms of partnerships for a project. Partnership research projects span a very broad spectrum of activities and business structure models.
Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)
NSERC’s role is to make investments in people, discovery and innovation to increase Canada’s scientific and technological capabilities for the benefit of all Canadians. NSERC invests in people by supporting postsecondary students and postdoctoral fellows in their advanced studies. It promotes discovery by funding research conducted by postsecondary professors and foster innovation by encouraging Canadian companies to participate and invest in postsecondary research and training.
Networks of Centres of Excellence of Canada (NCE)
Funding issued through NCE programs is awarded on a competitive basis. Competitions follow a multi-stage process that includes a comprehensive review conducted by top experts. They are scheduled as funding becomes available, and are tailored to respond to Canada’s current research and innovation needs, in keeping with the mandate of each program.
Parkinson Society Canada’s National Research Program funds research into the cure, cause, prevention, improved treatment and/or understanding of Parkinson’s disease, related disorders including: Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), other Parkinson’s conditions and the impact these diseases have on society.
Jesse & Julie Rasch Foundation
The Rasch Foundation supports two key categories in its charitable giving – health & medical research and environmental stewardship. Within these two broad categories, we have sought to support research and projects, often within niche areas that are of personal interest to the Rasch family but that have, in our opinion, continued to receive insufficient attention and funding. The Steacie Prize is named in memory of E.W.R. Steacie, a physical chemist and former President of the National Council of Canada. The Prize is awarded annually to a young scientist or engineer in Canada.
Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD)
Post-secondary academic institutions, research institutes, industry associations and other not-for-profit organizations that undertake initiatives supporting Western Economic Diversification Canada’s three strategic outcomes – innovation, business development and community economic development – are eligible to apply for funding.
Western Grains Research Foundation (WGRF)
The Endowment Fund supports research from across all crop types, looking specifically at projects that show potential for farmer benefit and demonstrate scientific merit. The fund is set-up to look at the long-term stability of crop research in Western Canada.
The grant program is allocated to fund wildlife habitat conservation projects across Canada.

Writers’ Trust of Canada – Awards
The Writers’ Trust of Canada presents ten annual prizes to authors at various stages of their careers. Through the Woodcock Fund, the Fund provides emergency funding to established writers in mid-project who are facing an unforeseen financial need that threatens the completion of their book.
