Biography

Dr. Michelle Naef joins the Faculty of Management at Concordia University of Edmonton after completing a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Alberta (2023). Michelle has extensive energy sector experience, having spent thirteen years in progressively challenging engineering and project management roles at Shell, Syncrude and PetroChina Canada. Her industry experience inspired her graduate research into integrated management systems and motivated her to explore how the structure and interface of critical data and process monitoring systems influence decision making. She is enthusiastic about bringing energy sector experience and knowledge to Management students at CUE and contributing to the development of the Energy Management program!

Michelle grew up in Alberta and lives on an acreage outside Edmonton with her husband, two sons and a collection of dogs, cats and horses. Sharing a rural county with many large industrial facilities, Michelle is interested in researching sustainable development practices and multi-use land planning as the energy sector transitions away from non-renewables. In her spare time, she enjoys working with her horses, running in the river valley and camping.
