Driven by a passion for helping others while protecting people and critical systems in an increasingly digital world, Shraiya has focused her graduate studies on cybersecurity and the many critical disciplines encompassed within it. Through her MISSM journey (2024–2026), she has developed both technical expertise and strategic critical thinking, preparing for a career dedicated to securing modern digital environments.

Jodi Arrowsmith

Jodi Arrowsmith is a graduating student from the MISAM program—the Master of Information Systems Assurance Management—Class of 2026 at Concordia University of Edmonton.

Her background is in telecommunications as an electronic engineer, and holds an applied degree in Information Systems Management. She has worked in the technology field for over 30 years and witnessed the evolution of technology—from early computer hardware and software, to the widespread accessibility of the internet, and more recently to emerging technologies such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Jodi chose Concordia because it offered a unique program that combines both business and technology. This was important as it would allow her to integrate her technical and business experience.

Through instruction and course materials her understanding expanded to a more holistic view of cybersecurity. She understands frameworks, standards and guidelines as well as how to implement governance, regulatory and compliance to all level of an organization.
Her experience at Concordia University has benefited her career by strengthening her research skills, guiding her to valuable online resources, and giving her a better understanding of Fraud activities in an organization.

The MISSAM program is an important stepping stone toward her goal of becoming an Information Systems Auditor. As she believes this is an area where there is a significant gap, particularly among small businesses in Canada. From her experience, many small businesses are doing the best they can with the resources and skill sets available to them. However, they often lack the guidance needed to properly address cybersecurity risks and information systems governance.

Her goal is to support these organizations by helping them strengthen their disaster recovery and business continuity planning, while also identifying practices that could negatively impact their operations.

Her advice to anyone considering this master’s degree is that she has greatly benefited from the quality of instruction and the expertise of the faculty in the MISSAM program as they provide guidance and insight needed to develop a strong understanding of cyber risk and assurance.

Based on her experience, she encourages professionals or IT support to consider this program if they want to elevate their understanding of the tools, frameworks, and practices needed to effectively support and secure their organization.
