Edmonton is home to more than 100 unique languages, with a majority of many heritage language speakers in the province. The Government of Alberta respects and supports international language learning from kindergarten to post-secondary education.
Concordia University of Edmonton’s internationalization strategy includes the creation of global awareness on campus, in and outside of classrooms. All students on campus have opportunities to learn a variety of international languages. These credited language courses include:
- Arabic
- Chinese
- French
- German
- Greek
- Hebrew
- Latin
- Spanish
Course descriptions for each of these language courses can be found on the Academic Calendar.
Besides the above credited language courses, there is also an Interdisciplinary Research Cluster on Linguistics and Language Education open to all students. These align with our Institutional Learning Outcomes in which ” international awareness ” and “being respectful of diversity” are emphasized. It opens doors for students to learn and appreciate other cultures, societies, and histories. For those who are interested in language learning, please check CUE’s academic calendar or stop by the International Office for details.
