Hani Barzagar is a business leader and community builder whose life story and philanthropic leadership reflect the transformative power of resilience, purpose, and giving back.
Arriving in Canada with his family after being displaced by the Gulf War, Barzagar’s family relied on community support, including the local food bank, to help rebuild their lives. That experience has remained central to his values and continues to shape his commitment to community helping communities.
As the President of HIBCO Construction and First General Edmonton, Barzagar has built respected property restoration and construction companies grounded in inclusive leadership, integrity, and collaboration. Under his leadership, these organizations have become trusted industry partners, responding to fires, floods, and weather-related disasters helping restore homes, businesses, and institutions during times of crisis.
Barzagar’s impact extends far beyond business through sustained and deeply personal community investment. Having relied on food bank support as a newly arrived immigrant, he has maintained a long-standing commitment to Edmonton’s Food Bank. Through HIBCO Construction and First General Edmonton, he has supported the Food Bank through extensive in-kind, financial, and volunteer contributions, including major renovations, accessibility improvements, and facility upgrades that strengthen its ability to serve the community.
In addition to his work with the Food Bank, Barzagar supports organizations such as the African Canadian Civic Engagement Council, Ronald McDonald House, and Sports Central. His contribution to the development of the Timbuktu Innovation Hub reflects his philanthropic approach: applying professional expertise and investing in grassroots organizations at pivotal moments of growth.
Through his journey from newcomer to accomplished business leader and philanthropist, Hani Barzagar demonstrates how success can be purposefully leveraged to strengthen communities and uplift others.
