Future CUE

Building for the Future

Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) has been around for over 100 years. Looking forward to the next 100 years, we imagine a future where learning and research takes place on an increasingly sustainable and beautiful urban campus.

One of our many priorities at CUE is to provide an excellent student experience. Our residence capacity hasn’t grown significantly for decades and we have heard loud and clear from our students that we need new and modern residence spaces on campus. We are excited to provide you with information on our next infrastructure project, a new student residence building, that is scheduled to break ground in spring of 2025.

As we did throughout the planning process for Braaksma Hall, the University will continue to work closely with the community and stakeholders as construction takes place. This page will have the latest project information, construction timelines, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does CUE need to expand its infrastructure?

CUE is growing—we are consistently welcoming high numbers of students to our campus, and are on track to reach our goal of 4,000 students in the near future. Additionally, we are creating and entering new partnerships and developing programs that require additional space and resources.

What is the purpose of this project?

With CUE’s current and future growth, we need to expand our infrastructure to meet the needs of our campus community. As part of our commitment to providing an excellent student experience, meeting our student housing needs with new and modern residence spaces is necessary. Without expansion, we will be unable to meet the needs of our students, faculty, and staff.

What is the timeline for this project?

The project is slated to break ground in spring of 2025 and is estimated to be open for operation in 2027.

How does CUE’s Campus Master Plan Align with other local initiatives?

CUE’s Campus Master Plan is aligned with many local developments across the city, including the Edmonton Exhibition Lands Planning Framework. With this project, we hope to celebrate what makes CUE—and Edmonton —and continue building momentum as we strive to become Canada’s pre-eminent small university.

Will CUE’s neighbours be impacted?

Construction for this development will be limited to our existing property, and we will work to minimize disruption to our neighbours. We understand the concerns of our neighbours and will maintain open lines of communication to ensure we are being considerate and responsive throughout construction.
