The two-year BEd (After Degree) is comprised of four semesters. Studies throughout the program are designed around the competencies that are defined by Alberta Education’s Teaching Quality Standard.
Year One, Semester One – Foundation [15 credits]
Education 501 – Introduction to Planning in the Elementary School
Education 551 – The Organizational Framework of Teaching
Education 561 – Teaching and Schooling in Western Civilization
Education 571 – Learning, Instructional Psychology and Educational Practice
Year One Field Experience (Part 1) – Students visit schools over a six month period, spending a minimum of 10 half days in schools.
Year One, Semester Two – Instruction 1 [15 credits]
Education 511 – Curriculum Design and Instructional Methods in the Elementary School (Core subject areas: Language Arts, English Language Learning, Mathematics,Science, Social Studies, Physical Education and Health, and Art. Elective subject areas: Early Childhood Education (Kindergarten), Music, Second Languages.)
Education 531 – Field Experience in the Elementary School II (Year One – 4 weeks)
Education 541 – Reflections on Field Experience I & II: Inclusive Education
Year Two, Semester One – Instruction 2 [15 credits]
Education 502 – Advanced Planning in the Elementary School
Education 532 – Field Experience in the Elementary School III (Year Two – 9 weeks; students have an option to extend this field experience to include the beginning of the school year)
