In the unlikely event of an active shooter incident on campus, the following procedure should be followed.
Scan and asses your situation, consider your options, and act.
- Run
- Get our immediately, if you can safely. Call 911 when safe.
- Follow the directions of responding police.
- Choose a safe exit, don’t attract the shooter’s attention, protect yourself first before helping others.
- Hide. Barricade your hiding place.
- Turn off the lights and cover the windows.
- Lock the door and barricade it if you can. Improvise if you can’t look the door.
- Stay out of the line of fire (hiding behind desks)
- Mute your phone and stay quite – wait for police to come to you.
- Do not answer the door until you hear an official all clear.
- Last resort – Fight.
- Improvise weapons from near objects.
- Commit to an aggressive physical attack.
- Stop the threat.
