Yoga Beyond the Mat

This course will take learners beyond the mainstream understanding of yoga (i.e. physical poses) and delve into the roots of the practice and its various forms. Through learning about the theory and various paths of yoga, learners will deepen their understanding, while also learning what practices resonate most for them.

By taking this course, the students will:

  • Gain an understanding of yogic philosophy & practices
  • Gain Yogic practices (i.e. meditation, philosophy, movement, etc.)

Course Information:

  • Week 1: History & Purpose of Yoga
  • Week 2: Raja Yoga (path of meditation and other practices)
  • Week 3: Jnana Yoga (path of knowledge)
  • Week 4: Bhakti & Karma Yoga (path of devotion and path of service)
  • Week 5: Applying Yoga to Daily Life

Format: Due to COVID-19, the courses scheduled in the Fall 2020 semester will be delivered online.
Pre-requisites: None
Course Fee: $95 + GST per course

About our instructor: Marina Hutton, BCom, Certified Yoga Instructor

  • Studied yogic philosophy and practices in India for 5 months in a full-time residential program
  • Created and facilitated meditation groups in organizations for 5+ years (i.e. BC Public Service, Elevate Consulting, University of Victoria, and Washington DC International Student House)
  • Certified Change Management Advisor & Practitioner
