Celebrating Years of Service Milestones
This week – March 8-12, 2021 – we are recognizing members of the CUE community who have shown kindness, empathy, and resiliency over the past year. We are also celebrating milestones and our retirees who have given their time and energy to our community, and impacted the lives of countless students and employees.
20 Years
Vladimir Pitchko
Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences
Dr. Vladimir Pitchko has been a member of the CUE community since 2000, and has helped to build a strong chemistry program and been a pillar in the growth of the Faculty of Science. He is loved and admired by his students and colleagues, who appreciate his kindness, patience, compassion, and, of course, sense of humour. While he has worked tirelessly on the administrative side and was instrumental throughout the accreditation process for chemistry, he is a teacher at heart and is a favourite among CUE’s students. In fact, he was recognized with the Judith C. Meier Excellence in Teaching Award in 2016.
Here is a sample of what his students have shared over the years:
Dr. Pitchko uses lots of example that are very helpful for understanding the content, and he is great at explaining ideas using mnemonics that are very effective.
It was difficult to do this course online; however, Dr. Pitchko is very understanding, and he answered all of my questions and responded to concerns to make online learning as easy as possible.
I loved Dr. Pitchko’s class. He finds creative and practical analogies and explanations for the course material, and he cares about our success.
I wish he has YouTube videos like he has for other classes to help us when he can’t be in our direct presence. Great professor, favourite chemistry teacher.
And, of course, our favourite:
Vladdy Phresh is the man!!!
Congratulations on all of your success and dedication to CUE, Vladimir!
