Summer office cleaning? Got books and school supplies you want to part with?

Posted on: Jun 16, 2020

Alfred Saffa, who recently retired from Concordia, will be going back to Sierra Leone to help rebuild the new Eastern Polytechnic University (www.easternpolytechnic.edu.sl) in the East of Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone has had its fair share of problems in Africa with a rebel war for diamonds that lasted from 1991 – 2006 during which greater than 3,000 people lost their lives; in the recent past, the ebola crisis (in 2017 in which 2,000 people perished) and the mudslide (in 2018 in which greater 2,000 people died).  These problems notwithstanding, last year the government of Sierra Leone embarked on a massive rehabilitation program including a huge investment in Human Capital Development in order to help the country stand up on its feet again. Alfred wants to be a part of that rebuilding process especially in the education sector.

He is looking for help with gathering books, school supplies (such as used computers/projectors and screens, pens, pencils, whiteboards, furniture, paper, printers, etc.) and any used or excess teaching supplies to ship to Sierra Leone.

If you have any books or school/teaching supplies that you would like to donate for this purpose, please contact Judy Kruse at judy.kruse@concordia.ab.ca.

We ask for items to be dropped off prior to the end of August.

Thank you for your support.
