New from the Library: Search Filters LibGuide

Posted on: Jul 12, 2021

Search filters, also known as hedges, are pre-constructed search strings developed to define search concepts for which there are many search terms. Search filters are usually developed for commonly used concepts, such as geographic locations, specific population groups, or trending research such as COVID-19.

To aid members of faculty and students with their research, CUE Library has compiled a number of search filters in an easy-to-navigate LibGuide.

This LibGuide provides access to copy-and-paste search filters for databases on the EBSCO platform, such as PsycINFO, CINAHL, MEDLINE, and ERIC, as well as Scopus. Current topics include Indigenous peoples, pediatrics, COVID-19, Canada, and Alberta.

  • To use a filter, simply copy the entire search string and paste it into a separate search box in the appropriate database.
  • New search filters will be added according to demand or as they become available.
