October Wellness Updates and Events

Posted on: Oct 1, 2021
Hello – Tansi – Taanishi – Halu – Kwe’ – Nú – She:kon – Bonjour!

There are so many exciting and worthwhile opportunities to participate in Wellness this October! Please spread the word to your CUE colleagues, peers and networks.

1. Wellness Wednesday Workouts brought to you by the Peer Wellness & Support Team! Check out our social media @CUEPeerWellnessSupport on Facebook or Instagram every Wednesday for new exercises!

2. Period Poverty Project – In an effort to reduce financial burden, several groups at CUE have partnered to launch the Period Poverty Project. As of the week of October 4th, baskets with free menstruation products will be available in appropriate bathrooms on campus. Want to support the program?  You can leave free products directly in any basket on campus and soon you’ll be able to donate online to the Period Poverty Program at: https://onlineservices.concordia.ab.ca/ops_new/makeagift/form.php

3. Films for Thought is a 1.5 hour workshop that engages emotionally safe discussions about mental health using film. Three short films from the Art with Impact film collection will be shown and discussed. All attendees will be entered to win a Happy Light LED Therapy Light!
Date:
October 21, 2021
12:00-1:30pm

4. Building Resilience (for CUE Employees only) is a 2 hour virtual workshop on developing your own resilience plan in the context of the workplace. This workshop is geared to CUE employees. A student version of the workshop will be offered in November.
Date:
October 25, 2021
1:00-3:00pm

5. Stand UP against street harassment – Join us for a one-hour, interactive, virtual training to learn how to intervene when you see harassment happening. We’ll talk about what harassment looks like — from microaggressions to violence — and how Hollaback!’s 5D’s of bystander intervention can help: distract, delegate, document, delay, and direct. We’ll also talk about how to prioritize your own safety while intervening and how to respond if you get harassed.
Date:
October 27, 2021
6:00-7:30pm

6. safeTALK is a 3.5 hour suicide prevention workshop focused on recognizing warning signs and connecting others with trained caregivers. We are thrilled to be offering this workshop to help members of the CUE community develop the skills to connect a person with thoughts of suicide to someone who can help.
Date:
October 23, 2021
9:00am-12:30pm

7. Mental Health Chats – Respect Group has collaborated with Kids Help Phone to create the following free Mental Health Chats:
Mental health chat: “ever get the feeling of something being off?”
Anxiety & stress chat: “your basic 2-headed monster”
Difficult convo chat: “don’t really want to, but need to”
Self-image comparison chat: “this is real, that’s not”

Happy Friday!
