A legacy of giving: Armbruster’s gift to empower future generations

Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) has received an extraordinary gift of over $971,000 from the estate of alumni John Armbruster, and his wife Elizabeth. This contribution builds on a lifetime of Armbruster’s philanthropic leadership towards CUE.

For decades, the Armbrusters have been a pillar of support for the CUE community. John, a 1944 graduate of Concordia High School, and his wife Elizabeth began their giving journey in 1988 with a gift to the Concordia Choir. Their quiet generosity has since touched countless lives and contributed significantly to CUE’s growth. Since 2019, the John & Elizabeth Armbruster Entrance Scholarship has provided $2,000 annually to a high school student entering their first year of study.

Being 18 and having to deal with studies as well as worrying about my fees — the scholarship has, considerably, made me shake off the burden.”
– shares a first-year student in Information Technology, one of the most recent recipients of the scholarship.

Now, through the establishment of a Charitable Remainder Trust, their legacy is set to expand dramatically. This final generous gift will allow CUE to create new bursaries and scholarships in their name, ensuring their impact supporting students continues for generations to come.

Their contribution highlights the profound impact that long-term, thoughtful generosity can have. CUE is honored to carry on their legacy, and is deeply grateful for their vision and dedication to transforming the lives of students for generations to come.
