What Sort of Thing is the Will? John Duns Scotus (c. 1265-1308) on Nature, the Good, and Human Freedom

Prof. Zupko considers Duns Scotus’s argument that human free will belongs not to the natural order, but rather to a standalone metaphysical order operating outside of nature. He also compares Scotus’ account of human agency with that of another major mediaeval thinker, St. Thomas Aquinas.
