The CSO and the BCCME Presents “East Meets West”

Sunday, April 23 ┃ 7 p.m.

Francis Winspear Centre for Music, 4 Sir Winston Churchill Square

The “East Meets West” concert brings together the BC Chinese Music Ensemble of Vancouver (BCCME) and the Concordia Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in a unique musical exchange of Oriental and Occidental tones. The program is conducted by Danielle Lisboa, Peggy Hua and Jason Wong and will feature works by Allan Gilliland, Richard Wagner, Camille Saint-Saëns, Chengzong Yin, Leung-fai Lo.

The centerpiece of the program is the piano concerto Yellow River 黃河鋼琴協奏曲 之旅 – a staple of Chinese culture. This new edition of the work, arranged for the Bamboo and Maple Festival by Mark Armanini, incorporates ten Chinese traditional instruments alongside its Western counterparts. They will be performed by the BC Chinese Music Ensemble chamber players and include the Dizi, the Sheng, the Yangqin, the Pipa, the Zheng, and the Erhu among others.
