On behalf of Concordia University of Edmonton and Treefort Technologies Inc., we are thrilled to announce a new partnership aimed at addressing the critical issue of identity fraud and cybercrime through industry-academia collaboration.
To mark the official launch of this partnership, we are inviting you to learn more about our information security and assurance related research, highlight this exciting collaboration, and demonstrate Treefort’s fraud prevention technology. The event will take place on Thursday, July 13 at 10 a.m. in Room AW125 in the Allan Wachowich Centre for Science, Research and Innovation on Concordia’s campus located at 7128 Ada Blvd, Edmonton.
Treefort is an Edmonton-based cybersecurity technology start-up that has developed cutting-edge software that is already being used in the Canadian real estate sector to combat identity fraud and ensure compliance with ID verification regulations.
Identity fraud and cybercrime poses significant challenges globally. A recent report released by the RCMP revealed a 40 per cent increase in cybercrime losses in 2022, totaling over $530 million, with a surge in identity fraud cases. These trends necessitate urgent action, education, and the development of advanced technologies to combat sophisticated cybercriminals.
Concordia has established partnerships with industry to give real-life experience to our students and to provide industry access to some of the best minds in cybersecurity through our Bachelors and Masters in information security programs. Our partnership with Treefort is a good example of this collaboration. At the event you will hear from students about their experience working at Treefort and watch a demonstration on how Treefort technology works.
As a small university, we’re making a huge impact in the cybersecurity world – and we are just getting started! We look forward to seeing you at this unique event where you will learn from Concordia’s leaders in innovation and industry experts about the latest advancements in cybercrime prevention and the opportunities available to students in this industry.
