Welcome Dr. Novlet Plunkett – Field Experiences and Employment Processes Coordinator!

Novlet Plunkett served as a lecturer of mathematics education and department chair at The Mico University College in Jamaica for 9 years, where she worked closely with student-teachers throughout their courses, field experience and research.

She later transitioned to the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission as an Institutional Monitoring Officer with responsibility for Teachers Colleges. Here she contributed to the regulation of tertiary education in Jamaica, and coordinated various projects aimed at reforming Teacher Education and enhancing the profile of the profession.

Novlet is a trained and certified teacher, with several years of experience in the classroom. She obtained her Doctor of Education degree in Elementary and Middle Grades STEM Education at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, USA, where her research focused on how elementary teachers’ beliefs in their ability to use reformed teaching methods to teaching mathematics and science manifested in their classroom practices.

Since immigrating to Canada, Novlet has served in Workforce Development at Manpower, coordinating a Government-funded training program, delivered through the University of Alberta. Through the program, unemployed Albertans are trained as Software Developers and prepared for employment.

Novlet is looking forward to utilizing her combination of skills from both Teacher Education and Workforce Development to make a valuable contribution as part of the CUE team.
