Wanted-CUE Commitment Advisors

Posted on: Jun 22, 2021

The CUE Commitment team is recruiting advisors for the Concordia Commitment Program. Please consider contributing to your campus community by becoming a CUE Commitment Advisor today!

Whether you are an administrator, an advisor, a faculty member, or a director, you’ll have life experience and an exciting career path to share with a student. Students who enroll in the Concordia Commitment are required to identify and connect with their advisor at the end of the first year/beginning of their second year of the Commitment program. They are then required to meet with an advisor a minimum of twice a semester during their time in the program (or four times per academic year).

What is the role of the Commitment Advisor?

Students who enroll in the Concordia Commitment are required to identify and connect with their advisor at the end of their first year/beginning of their second year of the Commitment program. They are then required to meet with an advisor a minimum of twice a semester during their time in the program (or four times per academic year). The time commitment for the advisor is approximately 5 hours per academic year.

The advisor role is multifaceted, but primarily, the advisor serves as a mentor to the student. Students and their advisors may choose to discuss the student’s course selections, program plans, extracurricular and volunteer activities, or career plans throughout their work together. Each advisor receives The Concordia Commitment Advisor Handbook that offers detailed guidelines to inform and shape the advising function of the Concordia Commitment.

Why is there an advising function in Concordia Commitment?

The Concordia Commitment advisor provides a stable relationship that can last throughout a student’s University experience. In that sense, an advisor is a CUE staff and/or faculty who can grow to know students individually, learn about their unique aptitudes, and take a personal interest in their educational journey, experiences, and challenges. The Concordia Commitment advisor is a sustained contact and a mentor who can guide students to navigate through their educational journeys at CUE.

If you would like to be considered for an advising role, and you haven’t already done so, kindly sign up here.
