Two Wins for Men’s Soccer on Their Northern Tour
Posted on: Sep 19, 2016The Thunder Men's Soccer team took all 6 points that were up for grabs this weekend in Grande Prairie and have moved up the north division table to 2nd place. After the long, early morning haul to GP on Saturday, the boys expended what energy they had left to go up 3-0 before settling with a 3-1 win. Two goals came from wonderful fast counter attacks showcasing the pace in this team. Man of the Match Mas Arya scored on the best of these fast break attacks.
In the Sunday rematch, the boys came out a bit flat but ascended quickly to control the game for the best part of 75 minutes, getting their first clean sheet of the season in a solid 2-0 victory. Thunder Head Coach Ian Skitch is very pleased with the play of his team in this young season. "Our defensive solidity was driven by a good tactical plan that earned Clinton Osaje Man of the Match. In attack, the boys have now hit 10 goals on the season with Ahmed Abubaker leading with 5. The only downside was missing a second penalty of the season."
Coming up, the Thunder will play their third straight double-header weekend, first heading to Camrose on Saturday for a tilt with the Augustana Vikings before returning home on Sunday to host the undefeated powerhouse Keyano Huskies. Kickoff will be at 2 PM.
