Tough Start to Second Half for Thunder MBB
Posted on: Jan 11, 2016Opening the second half of the 2015-16 season took the Thunder Men's Basketball team up north to Grande Prairie to take on the GPRC Wolves. Sitting a game behind the Wolves in the standings, the Thunder were going to need a big weekend to help their playoff chances. The Thunder got a nice boost to the lineup over the holiday break welcoming 3rd year forward Ben Grimsrud back to the lineup after a 14 month absence following ACL surgery. Game one would see the Thunder start strong and carry a 4 point lead into the second half but a poor 3-point shooting performance in the second half would leave the Thunder on the short end of an 82-78 final. The Thunder were led in this one by Jason Jones Jr. with 21 points. Brett Jakubec and Artez Scharer added 13 apiece to round out the double digit scorers.
Game two would see the Thunder start slow but regain a lead in the 3rd quarter. However, a poor start to the fourth frame would dig a hole that the Thunder would not be able to get out of and they lost their second game in as many days with by a final score of 77-72. Jason Jones Jr. would again lead the Thunder with 23 points with Adam Johnson and Artez Scharer adding 13 each.
The Thunder sit at 4-10 but still with plenty of life for a playoff spot. They will face a tough King’s squad this coming weekend in 2 critical games with both teams fighting for a playoff spot.
