Thunder Women’s Soccer Heading to ACAC Championship

Posted on: Oct 26, 2015

The Concordia Women’s Soccer team finished its 2015 regular season with a weekend split.  In the first match on Saturday at King’s University, second keeper Kathleen Lang made her post-secondary debut and earned Player of the Game honours and a shutout in a 4-0 victory.  Goal scorers for Concordia were Bryanna Neihaus, Nicole Klepic, Ahlam Abubaker and Kendra Benson.
Sunday’s match at home versus NAIT was an opportunity for Concordia to seek revenge on a 2-1 loss they experienced the week prior.  It was also a day where 4th year and graduating player, Alexa McGillivray was being honoured at centre field for her years of commitment to the program.   The Thunder ladies had plenty of chances to score, but couldn’t capitalize and fell victim to NAIT's counter attack and lost 1-0.  “I’m going to save it for next week,” (scoring at the provincial championship) said graduating player McGillivray.  The game at times lacked intensity as both programs had already qualified for next week’s tournament.
The Thunder ladies will have one day off before they return to the pitch on Tuesday to ready themselves for the upcoming ACAC Soccer Championship to be held in Grande Prairie from October 30th to November 1st.
