Thunder Women’s Soccer Close Season with Two Losses

Posted on: Oct 21, 2013

After a decade of ACAC Championship playoff appearances, the 2013 season has concluded for the Thunder Women's Soccer team without a post season to look forward to. Desperately needing to get a minimum of three out of six points from the last two regular season games this past weekend, the Thunder were unable find any offense and had to endure two losses to end this 'season of rebuilding'.  After losing to NAIT on Saturday 6-0, the Thunder needed to beat Grande Prairie Sunday by five goals in order to overcome the differential and earn a playoff spot.  Although Concordia did play one of their better games of the season, it was in vain as they lost to the visitors 2-1.  It was a tall task this season to remain atop of the standings as the program was attempting to recover from the mass exodus of players from last year’s squad.  First year Head Coach Franco Imbrogno has the challenge of rebuilding the program back up to the level it has enjoyed for the past 7 years. “We need players who have a high competitive value and a soccer pedigree in order to return to a championship form…next season starts today,” concluded Imbrogno. "The recruitment journey begins now."
