Thunder Golf team Qualifies for ACAC Championships

Posted on: Sep 22, 2014

The Concordia Thunder Golf team survived tough conditions at this weekend's Northern Regional play down to qualify for the ACAC Championships.  Conditions at Goose Hummock were difficult as 20 to 40km winds made the already tough course just that much more challenging. The biggest highlight from the weekend was Brendan Algeo shooting an 84 on Day 1 and an 80 on Day 2.  He finished tied for 14th out of a field of 60 golfers.  Coach Kevin MacAlpine said "Brendan really grinded it out and kept it together for 2 days and I am very proud of his results.  I am looking forward to seeing Brendan put 2 more solid rounds together next weekend."  Along with Brendan, first year golfers Dylan Brown and Ryan McLaren and 3rd year veteran Christian Frialde also shot well enough to qualify for the ACAC Championships next weekend in Cardiff. The Golf team's other two members – Beau Ferbey and Mick Walsh – narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Championships but will be there cheering on their 4 team mates. The Thunder will be practicing at their home course of Highlands this Wednesday and Thursday and they will be playing a practice round at Cardiff on Friday.  Great job Thunder and good luck next weekend!
