Thunder Curling Wrap Up Season in Camrose

Posted on: Feb 9, 2015

The Concordia Thunder Curling teams finished off their previously delayed season this past weekend in Camrose. Both the Ladies and the Mixed teams came into the weekend with 1 win and 5 losses from the first play down played at the Avonair Club earlier in January.  Some shuffling of the lineups was done prior to play in Camrose, with Ladies Skip Willow Frissell and Lead Jennifer Martinoski moving to the Mixed team to join Konnor Wood and Kyler Loomis. This left Adrienne Maschmeyer to Skip the Ladies team and she was joined by 3rd Brooke Gelasco, 2nd Regan Hominuik (who alternated with Megan Wruk) and Lead Melissa Palsitt.
The weekend did not start well for either team with both losing their first game on Friday afternoon.  The ladies came back in their next game to beat the 1st place MacEwan Griffins in the late draw.  Adrienne and company then won 2 of their next 3 games before losing a nail biter to Red Deer College on Sunday morning.
It took a little longer for the mixed team to get going, losing the 1st four games before finally getting into the win column on the final day, beating Red Deer and then Lakeland to finish off a disappointing season. Both teams, with 3 and 2 wins respectively, were able to move up the season final standings, both ending up in 6th place.
Coach Rick Mann praised both teams for their hard work this season and is looking forward to next year. "Only Willow Frissell is graduating this year, so we have a strong contingent of curlers to get started with for the 2015-16 season.  Willow will be missed on the team next year, as both a strong curler and leader but also for her constant smile regardless of how well or poorly the team results come out."
