Thunder Athletics Post a Record Seven Recipients of the CCAA Academic All-Canadian Award

Posted on: Apr 12, 2016

On April 8th, the CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) published the complete list of this season's winners of the Academic All-Canadian award.  This is the CCAA's most prestigious award (their words!) and is awarded to those rare student-athletes that are named as both All-Conference athletes (ACAC Conference All-Stars) AND who also have an honours-level GPA.  This season, Thunder Athletics had a record SEVEN athletes that were awarded this honour: Takeisha Wang, Badminton; Marriya Jenkins and Kirk Sundt, Cross-Country Running; Laura D’Andrea, Brynn deVries and Magdalena Boras, Women's Soccer; and Jose Villaneuva, Men's Soccer.
The new list reflects how rare this achievement is especially in light of Concordia being a relatively small school in comparison to most of the others on the list.  Of the 94 CCAA member institutions across the country, there were only 50 that had athletes that qualified for the award and of those 50, only TWO schools had more winners than we did; Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI with an enrollment of 8500 and Humber College in Toronto with an enrollment of 83000(!).
Congratulations to our award winners.  You've done your school proud!!
