A gold medal presented on behalf of and in the name of the Governor General of Canada to the student graduating with the highest academic standing in a graduate (i.e. Master’s) degree program. This medal is awarded for academic excellence only. Academic standing is based on both the graduating grade point average (GGPA), calculated using the required credits for the degree, and the strength of the research record, and/or the thesis. The strength of the research record and/or the thesis are based on the recommendation of the Graduate Program. The selection for the GG Gold Academic Medal is the responsibility of the Scholarship and Awards Committee.
