Posted on: Jul 7, 2022

Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) is pleased to announce that Dr. Makan Golizeh, assistant professor in the Faculty of Science, has been awarded an NSERC Discovery Grant.

Funding support for Dr. Golizeh’s research program, titled “Systematic Quantitation of Glycoxidative Stress in Biological Systems,” was recently announced by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

NSERC Discovery Grants are individual, five-year awards that support ongoing programs of research with long-term goals.

“The study of glycoxidative stress (GOS) is important in aging research, food science, and our understanding of several human diseases,” said Dr. Golizeh. “This research program also lies within the focus of our newly formed research cluster, Metals in Health and Environment.”

“I would like to thank the chemistry program, the Dean of Science, the Office of Research Services, and the past and present VPA & Provosts. This achievement would not have been possible without their sincere and continued support.”

Dr. Golizeh has also received a one-time Discovery Launch Supplement, awarded to Early Career Researchers within the first year of their Discovery Grants.

“I am always impressed by the incredible expertise CUE’s faculty members bring to their teaching and research. This well-deserved recognition demonstrates the significant impact Dr. Golizeh’s research is having within his field and on a national stage,” said Dr. Barbara van Ingen, CUE’s Vice President Academic & Provost.

“Congratulations to Dr. Golizeh and we look forward to seeing your continued success.”

Research at Concordia University of Edmonton is supported by the Research Support Fund, a Tri-Agency initiative that assists Canadian post-secondary institutions with the costs associated with managing their research enterprise. Concordia University of Edmonton acknowledges the value of this support and appreciates this ongoing research investment.
