Syed’s Story: CUE Career Fair x RBC
It all started with one small conversation.
That conversation between Syed Sayed Uzzaman, a CUE Bachelor of Management student, and Emma Leegsma, of the Royal Bank of Canada, at the 2025 CUE Career Fair, led to an exciting new opportunity for Syed.
Syed was born in Bangladesh and came to Concordia University of Edmonton to earn his Bachelor of Management degree.
“My father told me you’re going to apply at only one university and it’s going to be Concordia, and I did that.” Syed recalls, “And I was lucky. I got accepted and the journey began.”
More than just classroom learning, Syed’s time in his program helped him build his confidence and other soft skills that employers look for, which he applied in making that connection with Emma from RBC.
Emma tells of how Syed’s impact was immediate, presenting himself professionally and confidently. “When I first met Syed at the Career Fair, he was extremely professional, I remember that specifically,” Emma says. That confidence and professionalism opened doors for Syed, specifically a role with RBC as a Client Advisor.
Janet Klippenstein, Director – Student Life & Learning reflects that she “would really hope that a story like his would inspire other students to take advantage of those other small opportunities that come up.”
CUE’s Career Fair draws over 70 employers from across the province, and even some from outside of Alberta, looking to recruit and connect our talented students and get them closer to their careers ahead.
Syed’s goals are to continue working with RBC, completing his degree at CUE, earning his CFA level 1, and continue working in asset management.
“It’s been quite a journey for me. I learned how to talk to the right person, right place, how to be presentable and how to be there. Concordia and RBC, both combined, the Career Fair… they all taught me that.”
He summarizes his journey perfectly by saying, “It’s about who you are becoming.”
