Concordia University of Edmonton to Install New 100-Year Time Capsule into Cornerstone

Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) invites members of the public to join in a special community event on Friday, October 17, 2025, as the university reinstalls a time capsule into the cornerstone of Schwermann Hall, connecting 100 years of Concordia’s history and legacy on Ada Boulevard.

Following the recent unveiling of CUE’s original 1925 time capsule, the university will now present a new 2025 time capsule, designed to be opened in 2125. The capsule reflects the people, progress, and priorities that define CUE today and will be ceremonially sealed into the historic cornerstone.

“As we prepare to reinstall our cornerstone, we are reminded that Concordia’s story is rooted in this place and its deeper history,” said Dr. Tim Loreman, President and Vice-Chancellor. “Our campus rests within Treaty 6 Territory and on the traditional Métis River lots that shaped this part of Edmonton. For more than a century, Concordia has contributed to the education and edification of local communities, the Edmonton Metro Region, and beyond. As such, our time capsule aims to be more than a collection of objects—it is a message to the future, reflecting who we are and what we value today.”

The ceremony will feature remarks from university leadership and brief toasts from students, alumni, faculty, and community representatives. Attendees will be able to view the 2025 time capsule items before they are sealed into CUE’s historic cornerstone.

All are welcome to attend and take part in this moment of reflection and renewal as Concordia University of Edmonton looks ahead to its next century.
