While we would like to assume that people are honest and have good intentions, it is important to practice safe habits when spending time on campus, especially when studying alone or after hours.
Working Alone
When working alone, consider the following questions:
Could someone hear you if you called for help?
Do you have a way of protecting yourself if you are far from other students or staff?
Does security know where you are?
Safety Tips
Trust your intuition. If something doesn’t feel right, acknowledge it and take steps to ensure your safety.
If you’re meeting up with someone, do so in a more public place such as Tegler, the Library circulation desk, or the Student Success Centre. Seek out spaces with security camera coverage, and more importantly, other people.
Ask a friend or classmate to study with you.
Be mindful of stairwells, hallways or other doors being locked after hours.
Park your vehicle in a well-lit location or periodically move it closer after hours if this is an option.
If you are working or studying late and need an escort to your vehicle, call security.
