EDMONTON, Alberta — Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) today announced that Jim Gendron, Chair of the Board of Governors, has informed the Board that he will be stepping down from his role for personal reasons.
Gendron joined CUE’s Board of Governors as a community member in 2020, a full member in 2022, and was appointed Chair in 2023. During his tenure, he helped guide the university through a period of transition and renewal, strengthening the Board’s governance processes and deepening engagement with the broader community.
“It has been a privilege to serve Concordia University of Edmonton as a member of the Board and, most recently, as Chair,” said Gendron. “Over the past several years, I have witnessed the extraordinary dedication of CUE’s faculty, staff, and leadership team in advancing the university’s mission and expanding its impact as Alberta’s largest independent university. Although my time on the Board is coming to a close, my commitment to CUE remains steadfast. I look forward to continuing to champion its work and success as a proud Board alumnus and engaged community neighbour.”
President and Vice-Chancellor Tim Loreman expressed gratitude for Gendron’s leadership and lasting contributions.
“Jim’s thoughtful and steady leadership has strengthened our Board and supported CUE’s continued growth,” said Loreman. “Under his guidance, CUE advanced several major initiatives, including the completion and inauguration of Braaksma Hall and the groundbreaking of our new student residence. Beyond his formal responsibilities, Jim has been an engaged supporter and generous donor whose presence and positivity have enriched our entire campus community. We are deeply grateful for his service.”
During this transition, Vice Chair Patricia (Trish) Bronsch will assume the role of Acting Chair. The Board of Governors will appoint a new Board Chair at their next regularly scheduled meeting on November 21, 2025.
