We are proud to announce that Crystal Willie, a distinguished alumna of Concordia University of Edmonton, has been honored with the 2024 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for her exceptional contributions to the museum practice in Alberta. This prestigious award recognizes her 25 years of leadership and innovative work in professionalizing the provincial and national museums while actively engaging the community.
Crystal’s journey began in 1998 as a collections intern at the Alberta Railway Museum. Over the years, she has excelled as a writer, editor, and strategic thinker, leading initiatives that connect museums with their community. Holding a BA in history and Political science from CUE, a Professional Specialization Certificate in Cultural Heritage Sector Leadership from the University of Victoria, and an MA in history from the University of Alberta, Crystal embodies the spirit of lifelong learning.
Her impactful work includes significant contributions to vital resources such as the Standard Practices Handbook for Museums, and HELP! An Emergency Preparedness Manual for Museums. These projects reflect her dedication to high standards and community relevance within the museum sector.
Her influence extends beyond Alberta, as she collaborates with museums or funding institutions of all sizes to shape the future of heritage in Edmonton and beyond.
