The Concordia Symphony Orchestra presents its Winter program “Land of the Longing.” Come join us for an afternoon of inspiring symphonic music from three titans of the repertoire: Schumann, Beethoven and Mendelssohn.
The program pulls from the spirited verve of Beethoven’s Egmont overture to the contemplative depiction of Fingal’s cave by Mendelssohn. This musical crossing is centred around Schumann’s iconic symphony no. 3, “Rhenish.” Always inventive and always ahead of its time, this symphony showcases Schumann’s genius at its height but also foreshadows the melancholy traps of the composer’s final years.
