New International Partner in Shanghai Established

CUE President and Vice Chancellor Dr. Tim Loreman paid a visit to Donghua University in Shanghai, China on Nov 9, 2018.  A Memorandum of Understanding and a Student Exchange Agreement between Donghua University and CUE were signed during President Loreman’s visit.

The agreement between Donghua University and CUE initially allows for an exchange of up to two students per year. The MOU allows both institutions to develop student, faculty and staff mobility, joint research activities and publications, seminars, sharing of materials and resources, etc.

Donghua University (DHU) is located in downtown Shanghai and adjacent to Hongqiao Economic Development Zone.  

Shanghai is a global financial centre and transport hub, with the world’s busiest container port and is located in the Yangtze River Delta.  As a major administrative, shipping and trading city, Shanghai has always been one of the top destinations for international students.  The Chinese International Import Expo (CIIE), the world’s first import-themed national-level expo, is held in Shanghai this week (Nov 5-10).  172 countries and regions have participated in CIIE, including Canada.

DHU is one of the key state universities directly under the Ministry of Education of China.  Its feature disciplines, such as Fashion Design, Textile Engineering, International Trade, Material Science, and Information Technology have received high reputations both domestically and abroad.  DHU is a multi-disciplinary university with a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs across a vast field of disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature and art, laws, science, and education.  

DHU has 13 colleges and schools, offering 54 undergraduate programs, 59 masters degree programs, 30 doctoral degree programs, and 5 postdoctoral research programs, among which are 6 state key disciplines and 7 Shanghai municipal key disciplines.  There are more than 2,800 faculty and staff, and over 30,000 enrolled students at DHU.  The employment rate maintains 100% for post graduates and over 95% for undergraduates in the past several years. DHU also successfully held international conferences and forums in the fields such as textile, fashion, and material.
