Introducing an outdoor classroom this fall

Posted on: Aug 2, 2022

In a recent message from the President, we shared the action plan we will be using to improve employee and student experiences across CUE. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to read the plan Reconnecting CUE 2022 – A plan forward. Thank you for sharing your perspectives and insights — I look forward to working with you to implement many of these actions this fall.

In one of the engagement sessions held this spring, the idea of introducing an outdoor classroom to enhance the teaching and learning experience was brought forward by a faculty member. I’m pleased to let you know that this is something we will be piloting this fall.

The space will be on the lawn in front of Schwermann Hall and we will be installing seating for up to 48 people. Please give some thought to any opportunities to use this unique environment for your upcoming classes and activities. The space is bookable for this September and October and has been added to the Google room booking system.

Join me in giving a warm welcome to Dr. Brett Buchanan, our new Dean of Arts who started his role this week. We will be hosting a meet and greet for our two new and two continuing deans, on August 25 from 11am to noon in the Tegler Mezzanine. I encourage everyone to stop by and say hello.

I wish you all a wonderful August and look forward to seeing everyone in the weeks ahead.
