Dr. Teresa Fowler Awarded Research Grant to Improve Mental Health and Wellbeing of Motorcyclists

Posted on: Nov 17, 2020

We are proud to announce Dr. Teresa Fowler has been awarded a research grant through the Social Connections Challenge, presented by the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and Movember Foundation.

Dr. Fowler’s project, Men Riding for Sustainability and Wellness, draws upon both social and environmental factors to engage young male motorcycle riders, helping to find better ways to promote mental wellbeing and mental health literacy.

Men are faced with substantial shifts in what it means to be a man, including recent changes in the global economic focus from the extraction and depletion of our natural resources towards renewable energies and sustainable development. By focusing on sustainability as a social connection for men, this project provides a space for young male motorcycle enthusiasts to reconnect with nature in order to improve mental health. The project seeks to enable men to be more engaged and active in improving their mental wellness and more engaged in environmentalism.

To date, only 18 projects from across Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States have been awarded funding, and we are extremely pleased and proud to see Dr. Fowler’s project included.

Congratulations, Dr. Fowler!
