CUE’s Collaboration with the Canadian Arab Friendship Association
Posted on: Mar 2, 2020The Office of Extension and Culture at CUE is pleased to announce that a Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian Arab Friendship Association (CAFA) was signed on March 1, 2020.
The MOU was signed by Mr. Yazan Haymour, President of CAFA, Dr. Manfred Zeuch, Vice President External Affairs and International Relations at CUE, Dr. Mayada Tawachi, Executive Director of CAFA, and Dr. Xinxin fang, Director of Extension and Culture at CUE. Mr. Yazan Haymour delivered an inspiring speech on Arabic Music and Education. The Signing Ceremony was followed by Concordia Symphony Orchestra’s gorgeous concert A Thousand Veils.
CAFA has been recognized locally and nationally as an important part of the multicultural mosaic in Edmonton, involved in many arts and cultural events and committees. Both Concordia and CAFA look forward to building bridges to connect the Canadian Arab Community with our post-secondary resources in Edmonton and area.
The collaboration between CUE and CAFA includes:
- Scholarships for Arabic language and culture learning (credit and non-credit) at Concordia University of Edmonton;
- Promotion of Arabic language, culture, and education opportunities;
- Course development in Arabic history & civilization;
- Delivery of programs and professional learning;
- And many other projects mutually agreed upon.
The guests who participated in the Signing Ceremony and A Thousand Veils concert also include Mr. Ziad aboultaif, MP; Dr. Diana Steinhauer, President of YTC College; Mr. Henry Fung, President of Alberta Chinese Cultural Society; Ms. Janice Aubry, Director of Curriculum and Resource Support at EPSB; and principals from Arabic bilingual program schools in Edmonton. Over 200 people participated in the event.
