CUE COVID-19: Employee Absences and Pay Information

CUE will provide salary continuance as described below during COVID-19 pandemic event and during all CUE Pandemic Plan response levels.

With the health, safety and wellness of CUE Members and of the greater community in mind, CUE is asking Employees to self-isolate, work remotely or stay home when appropriate. This will contribute to reducing the spread of COVD-19.
For Faculty and Academic Service Officers
When you have been advised by a health care provider to self-isolate, or have returned from international travel, or are aware you have been exposed to COVID-19; and
When you share a household with someone who has been advised to self-isolate by a health care provider, or has returned from international travel, you are expected to self-isolate as well.
- Faculty and Academic Service Officers are to contact their supervisor via email or phone call, advising of the absence and estimated return to work date. Do Not Attend Campus.
- Faculty and Academic Service Officers will continue to receive regular pay during the self-isolation period
- Faculty and Academic Service Officers are not required to provide a medical certificate for the absence
- Faculty and Academic Service Officers will not be requested to record time as medical leave taken, so the time will not be charged against annual medical leave entitlements
- Faculty and Academic Service Officers will be required to record the self-isolation absence in myAvanti as COVID Paid Leave code
If you have tested positive for COVID-19:
- Faculty and Academic Service Officers are to contact their supervisor advising of the absence and estimated return to work date. Do Not Attend Campus.
- Faculty and Academic Service Officers will participate in the short-term disability process. Human Resources will assist with this process.
- Faculty will continue to receive their regular salary paid by CUE
- Academic Service Officers will receive salary through short-term disability provider Equitable Life at 66% of regular salary. CUE will top-up to 100% of salary for the first four weeks of short-term disability related to the COVID-19 illness.
- Faculty and Academic Service Officers will be required to record the COVID -19 absence in myAvanti as COVID Paid Leave code
For Staff and Hourly Staff
When you have been advised by a health care provider to self-isolate, or have returned from international travel, or are aware you have been exposed to COVID-19; and
When you share a household with someone who has been advised to self-isolate by a health care provider, or has returned from international travel, you are expected to self-isolate as well.
- Staff are to contact their supervisor via email or phone call, advising of the absence and estimated return to work date. Do Not Attend Campus.
- Staff will continue to receive regular pay during self-isolation period
- Hourly Staff who were scheduled to work and cannot due to self-isolation will receive their pre-scheduled hours as pay. The Supervisor must enter the hours for the Hourly Staff into myAvanti in order for the Hourly Staff to be paid.
- Staff are not required to provide a medical certificate for the absence
- Staff will not be requested to record time as medical leave taken, so the time will not be charged against annual medical leave entitlements
- Staff and Hourly Staff will be required to record the self-isolation absence in myAvanti as COVID Paid Leave code
If you have tested positive for COVID-19:
- Staff are to contact their supervisor advising of the absence and estimated return to work date. Do Not Attend Campus.
- Permanent Staff will participate in the short-term disability process. Human Resources will assist with this process. Non-permanent Staff will continue to receive their regular salary and benefits as per their terms and conditions of employment.
- Permanent Staff will receive salary through short-term disability provider Equitable Life at 66% of regular salary. CUE will top-up to 100% of salary for the first four weeks of short-term disability related to the COVID-19 illness.
- Hourly Staff who were scheduled to work will receive their pre-scheduled hours as pay. The Supervisor must enter the hours for the Hourly Staff into my-Avanti in order for the Hourly Staff to be paid.
- All Staff will be required to record the COVID -19 absence in myAvanti as COVID Paid Leave code
For Academic Colleagues (Sessional Instructors)
When you have been advised by a health care provider to self-isolate, or have returned from international travel, or are aware you have been exposed to COVID-19; and
When you share a household with someone who has been advised to self-isolate by a health care provider, or has returned from international travel, you are expected to self-isolate as well.
- The Academic Colleague is to contact their supervisor via email or phone call, advising of the absence and estimated return to work date. Do Not Attend Campus.
- Academic Colleagues will continue to receive regular pay during the COVID-19 self-isolation period
- Academic Colleagues are not required to provide a medical certificate for the absence
If you have tested positive for COVID-19:
- The Academic Colleague is to contact their supervisor advising of the absence and estimated return to work date. Do Not Attend Campus.
- Academic Colleagues will continue to receive regular pay during COVID-19 medical absence period
CUE Pandemic Plan Response Level 3
- Essential employees and services continue through working remotely, and they will receive pay for hours worked
- Non-essential employees are not required to work remotely and will continue to receive their regular pay
- All new hires who are to start employment during response level 3 will be advised their start date will be delayed
