CUE announces staff restructuring plan
Posted on: Mar 7, 2023Concordia University of Edmonton’s 2023/24 budget prioritizes students. It repositions the university on a more sustainable path by balancing the challenges of reduced enrollment and tuition revenue and rising operating costs and inflation.
As mentioned in previous blog posts, planning for this year has required fiscal restraint, which demands the university make important decisions about restructuring. CUE has been guided by our commitment to preserving the student experience and offering high-quality educational and research opportunities to new and future students and faculty.
Reducing non-instructional expenses is the best way to lower our operating costs with minimal impact on students. Budget 2023/24 responsibly reorganizes CUE administration, reduces senior administrative roles and some staff positions. It also freezes non-essential institutional travel budgets and curtails budgets for events, hospitality, and discretionary spending across the university institution.
The decision to reduce staff is made with empathy for those who are impacted by these changes. We offer compassion and gratitude to the departing members of our community and wish them well in their future endeavours. In the weeks ahead, our administration will also work closely with management teams to help staff and faculty manage the transition.
With these reductions, we have addressed our current budget shortfall. In the year ahead, CUE administration will continue focusing on efficiently delivering high-quality post-secondary programs while redoubling our fundraising and student attraction initiatives.
We will always be guided by our commitment to students and the sustainable future of CUE.
