Alternative Assessment – Community of Practice (CoP) – Centre of Teaching Excellence in Action !

The CoP will run every 2nd Wednesday from 12:45- 1:45 pm in HA221 (unless the group decides to change the date/times based on schedules).

What is a Community of Practice or CoP?
Proposed by cognitive anthropologist Jean Lave and educational theorist Etienne Wenger in their 1991 book Situated Learning, a community of practice (or CoP) brings a group of people together to examine a common passion or interest in teaching and learning by building knowledge together.

What kinds of Topics could be considered in the Alternative Assessment – CoP ?
While the members of the CoP will guide the discussion and exploration of the topic, the following topics might be considered:
- Ungrading (Susan Blum) or An Introduction to Ungrading
- Online Assessment in Higher Education
- Alternative Assessment in Higher Education
- Competency Based Learning
- Outcomes Based Assessment
- Designing Rubrics
This is the first Community of Practice that will be used as a pilot to support the new Office of teaching of Learning. Every instructor (faculty or sessional) is invited to join! We look forward to learning with you !
