CUE’s Approach
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our priority has been protecting the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and community. We have strictly followed the guidance of Alberta Health Services and the restrictions put in place by the Government of Alberta, and we will continue to do so.
The following principles continue to guide our approach:
- Putting people and safety first.
The health and safety of our community continues to be our top priority. Although vaccinations will mitigate the effects of COVID-19, it is expected that the virus will continue to be present and will need to be managed on an ongoing basis. As such, certain controls and measures may still be required to maintain a safe and healthy learning, living and working environment. We will continue to follow the guidance provided by Alberta Health Services and will adapt as required. - Supporting student learning and research.
As a post-secondary institution, our mission is centred around student learning and research. Above all other campus activities and functions, we will prioritize teaching and research. - Recognizing the value of our employees.
Our faculty, instructors and staff are our most valuable resources, and are essential in supporting our mission and vision and providing high-quality learning experiences to our students. - Introducing flexibility.
Our approach has historically been solely focused on in-person courses and interactions; however, as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize and understand that a shift has occurred, and we need to respond accordingly to meet the needs and expectations of our students and employees. - Taking a holistic approach.
Planning for educational activities should encompass all aspects of the educational experience including learning within classrooms, lecture theaters, laboratories, workshops, performances, practicums, research settings, study spaces and travel abroad/exchange programs where possible. - Prioritizing student services.
Services and supports are an integral component of the student experience. Depending on the student and their particular needs, the type of services, supports, and student accommodations required will vary. - Communicating regularly.
We are committed to ongoing and timely communication to ensure a successful return to campus.
Frequently asked questions
Please check back as we will update FAQs regularly.
Am I able to obtain an exemption from returning to campus?
CUE is not an online university and will continue to emphasize face-to-face and flexible delivery. As always, anyone with grounds for an accommodation should contact Student Life and Learning (for students) or Human Resources (for employees).
What if I don’t feel comfortable returning to campus?
We understand members of the community may have concerns about returning in person. It is best to start a conversation to share your concerns. For students, please reach out to Student Life and Learning. For staff, please talk to your supervisor or Human Resources.
My class was always scheduled to be held online. Will this change?
No. Winter term classes that were originally scheduled to be held online or have online components will continue to be delivered online after March 1.
How do I reinstate my parking pass?
If you cancelled your parking in the main lot when classes shifted online, you will need to contact Precise Parklink.
If you have a parking pass at Expo Centre, you don’t need to do anything. Please ensure your parking pass is visible in your car. We will be issuing refunds for January and February in the next few weeks to those parking in the Expo parking lot.
When will food services reopen?
Service will resume full operations on Monday, February 28.
Will I be able to continue to work from home after March 1?
CUE promotes a healthy work life balance and supports flexibility wherever possible. Remote or hybrid work arrangements will be determined by the nature of your role and considering operational requirements for your area. You will need to discuss an arrangement with your supervisor. Please refer to CUE’s Remote Work Policy for more information.
